A bustling transportation hub and family destination in one, Greensboro serves up fun like North Carolina's barbecued pulled pork serves up flavor. Greensboro Attractions

Step into a time machine with a self-guided tour of the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. The brutal fighting here on March 3, 1781 cost so many British casualties that the American Revolution ended just seven months later. Fast-forward to the 21st-century Greensboro Science Center, Zoo and SciQuarium for a day with life-sized dinosaur replicas and up-close encounters with wildlife and underwater creatures from around the globe. Adventurous family members age 8 and older, zip through the treetops on the Science Center's SKYWILD Line, or shoot, twist and plummet your way through hours of refreshing, watery fun at Wet 'n' Wild Emerald Pointe. Traveling with Fido? Turn him loose at Country Park's Bark Park next door to the Science Center while the kids hit the playground or go pedal boating on two fish-stocked lakes.

Greensboro Weather

Greensboro begins to warm up in May, when daytime temperatures climb into the high 70s F, and doesn't start cooling off until October. Expect average daytime temperatures in the mid- to high-80s from June through August, with nights about 20 degrees cooler. Summer is the wettest season, so carry umbrellas for the occasional thunderstorm. Bring sweaters and light jackets in October and November, when fall colors arrive with the evening chill. From December through March, dress for sub-freezing nights and light snow.

Greensboro Transportation

More than 50 aviation companies—including jet manufacturers and maintenance providers—have facilities at the Piedmont Triad Airport, where FedEx sorts up to 400 packages per minute in a 1-million-square-foot facility. UPS and several other major freight companies also take advantage of Greensboro's location within 650 miles of one-half of the U.S. population. A highly skilled manufacturing force produces specialty coatings and components for the electronics, aerospace, defense and wireless industries. Other important industries in the area include life sciences and specialized business services.
