THE HOTTEST STADIUM IN THE GAME
With a capacity of nearly 49,000 people, Chase Field was the first stadium in the country to install a retractable roof. It’s also the first to have this kind of roof over a natural-grass playing surface. The roof is an absolute necessity since Phoenix is the hottest major city in the U.S. by far; the average high temperature during baseball’s regular season is 99.1 degrees, and temperatures at game-time during the summer are usually well above 100 degrees!
It takes just four and a half minutes to open or close the roof, and the air conditioning system keeps the stadium in cool comfort, even in the hot summer months. To take advantage of the hot sun, Chase Field installed the APS Solar Pavilion—which includes solar panels that can generate enough electricity for about 8-10 homes. The energy obtained from the panels is stored in batteries for charging electric vehicles.
Chase Field recently entered a joint venture with the city’s professional basketball team, creating a Legends Entertainment District in support of downtown Phoenix. The District includes Chase Field, Talking Stick Resort Arena and the Phoenix Convention Center. Staying at Chase Field hotels will allow you to enjoy all of the action.
The stadium has also hosted a wide variety of sporting events, including pro and college championships and supercross and monster truck events. Additionally, concerts by artists such as Jessica Simpson, Trace Adkins, Smash Mouth and The Wiggles have been held here.
