MAKING PITTSBURGH A POPULAR PLACE
Named after a former Pittsburgh mayor and Pennsylvania governor, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center was designed by the renowned architect Viñoly to be a “green” building. In 2003, the building won Gold LEED certification, becoming the largest green building in the world—as well as Platinum certification for an existing building.
The center hosts a variety of notable events, including Anthrocon, Piratefest, the Pittsburgh RV Show, the Pittsburgh Boat Show, the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show, and the renowned Pittsburgh International Auto Show.
Visitors can find plenty to see and do within a few blocks of the center. At the base of the Convention Center’s water feature on 10th Street is the $9.5 million Convention Center Riverfront Plaza. West of the building is The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and its 14 cultural venues, parks and plazas. East of the center is the Strip District with its open-air markets, nightclubs and coffeehouses.
Event attendees and tourists visiting downtown Pittsburgh can choose from a variety of hotels near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
