Monday Through Friday in Savannah

Are you considering a midweek trip to Savannah? Well, you’re about to treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind Southern experience. The Hostess City of the South never lets her guests down (especially during the week!) with plenty of inexpensive and fun things to do within easy reach of your Savannah hotel. Check out our weekday itinerary before you head down and get ready to be charmed by this Southern city.

    Monday:

See the light on Tybee Island

Start the week by getting out of town. Don’t worry—you won’t have to go too far. Only 18 miles from downtown Savannah (about a 20-minute drive) is Tybee Island, one of the country’s top-rated beaches complete with Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse. For just $10 per adult and $8 per child age 6-17 (kids 5 and under get in free!), you’ll experience the Light Station, nearby Tybee Raised Cottage and the Tybee Museum in Battery Garland. Plus, every Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. is the Framers and Artisan Market, which takes place in the field next to the Light Station.

    Tuesday:

City Hall to city brews

For a dash of political history, art and architecture, be sure to visit Savannah on the first Tuesday of the month. On this day, City Hall offers First Tuesday Tours to the first 25 guests who register online. Starting at noon, these free lunch-time tours teach visitors about Savannah’s leaders and the influence the city has had on the South since it was first established as an Atlantic seaport in 1733. After the tour, drop into Moon River Brewing, just across the street in the old City Hotel building. Happy hour starts at 4 p.m. every day with discounts on Moon River beers and house wine.

    Wednesday:

Savor the sweet life

According to Forrest Gump, “life is like a box of chocolates.” See for yourself just how sweet life can be with a visit to Chippewa Square, where these famous words were once captured on film. After taking a few selfies with the bench where Tom Hanks once sat, walk six minutes to Savannah Coffee Roasters for Libertea High Tea. You’ll delight in sweet macarons, fruit tartlets, cream puffs, chocolate shots and eclairs paired with teas from around the world. Three-course sittings are $25 per person, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Reservations are recommended at least 24 hours in advance.

    Thursday:

Riverside monuments and distinct martinis

Savannah’s Historic District awaits with a self-guided tour of the city’s best monuments. Perched along the Savannah River is the Waving Girl Statue, erected in honor of a woman who waved to incoming ships for nearly 45 years, searching for her long-lost lover. Toward the west is the African-American Monument with a special inscription by Maya Angelou. A World War II Memorial titled “A World Apart” displays the names of soldiers lost during the war. Finish at Jen’s & Friends, where you can choose from over 300 martinis and enjoy a $5 drink-of-the-day special from 3 to 7 p.m.

    Friday:

Walk down history lane

History buffs who wish to experience the strength of Savannah’s military force can take part in a live soldier reenactment during the Loyalists & Liberty Tour at the Savannah History Museum. After exploring the museum’s relics, visitors walk across the street to Battlefield Memorial Park, where soldiers fought in the second bloodiest battle of the American Revolution. Afterwards, continue your history lesson at Abe’s on Lincoln. The historic tavern serves craft beers and cocktails in an atmosphere dedicated to all things Abraham Lincoln. Happy hour specials are served from 4 to 7 p.m. with a DJ spinning vinyl records every Friday starting at 10 p.m.
