“PAHK THE CAH” AND EXPERIENCE IT ALL
The inner harbor has long served as the main port of Boston and still houses most of the port facilities. It extends from the mouths of the Charles River and the Mystic River to Logan International Airport and Castle Island—where the inner and outer harbors meet. The harbor actually contains 34 islands, which are part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The area also includes the Boston Harbor Islands State Park, as well as attractions such as hiking trails, beaches, and Boston Light on Little Brewster Island—the oldest lighthouse in the U.S.
For those who love a good walk, the Boston Harborwalk follows the edge of piers, wharves, beaches and shoreline around the harbor. As of 2016, 38 of the planned 47 miles of trail have been completed. Along the walk, visitors will find parks, educational sites and other amenities—as well as connections to many other trails, including the famed Freedom Trail, which goes past 16 locations that played a significant role in U.S. history.
Of course, the city itself has amazing things to see and do. Boston is known throughout the world for its colleges and universities, art and culture, sports teams, and much more. History buffs can enjoy sites such as Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S., the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, and the U.S.S. Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship in the world.
