This 38,362 seating capacity ballpark is located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and just along the Allegheny River. This fifth designated field for Pittsburgh’s home team opened during the 2001 season after the controlled implosion of the team’s previous home, Three Rivers Stadium. Fans nostalgic for older ballparks will note that this one retains the feel of "classic" stadiums of yesteryear like Fenway Park and Wrigley Field through its design (its archways, steel truss work lighting and its natural grass playing surface). This venue is the first two-deck ballpark to be built in the United States since Milwaukee County Stadium opened in 1953. At the same time, the stadium has kept up with state-of-the art comforts that today’s fans have come to expect.
This field features a 24 by 42 foot JumboTron, which is accompanied by what goes down in the records as the first-ever LED video boards in an outdoor stadium. This is also the first stadium to feature an out-of-town scoreboard with the score, inning, count, number of outs, and base runners for every other game being played around the league. And the scoreboard has karaoke displays of every song being played during the game. Not only does this stadium offer fans spectacular views of city's skyline, it offers them better views of the actual game. Seats are angled toward the field and aisles are lowered to give spectators improved views of the field. The majority of those 26,000 seats are on the first level and the highest seat in the stadium is 88 feet above the playing surface. At 51 feet, the batter is closer to the seats behind home plate than he is to the pitcher! And for those packed- to-capacity games, the four-level steel rotunda and a section above the out-of-town scoreboard offer standing-room only space.
To make your ballpark experience different than anywhere else, try a sandwich from Primanti’s, a Pittsburgh institution. Your huge hoagie will come with coleslaw and French fries—inside the sandwich itself. Locally brewed beer is also on tap from the Yuengling vendor. And unique only to this stadium, during one of the inning breaks, giant pierogis race around the field to the delight of Pittsburgians and the confusion of everyone else! If you want to see a world class baseball played in a state-of-the- art venue, look no further than PNC Park. And if you seek hotels near PNC Park that are in a league of their own, book a hotel room today at any of the Choice Hotels listed below.
