Known by many as the “Christian Broadway” for consistently bringing stories of the Bible to the stage, this Christian-based theater complex has a history in the area that dates back to the summer of 1976, when the theatre’s founders, Glenn and Shirley Eshelman, launched a 10-week multimedia show The Wonder of It All from Lancaster Bible College’s auditorium. Based on its success, they built the original Sight & Sound Auditorium (which later became the Living Waters Theatre in 1987) in Ronks, Pennsylvania. The Living Waters Theatre was then renovated to accommodate live stage productions until another large theater, christened The Millennium Theatre, was opened in 1998.
The new 2,000-seat venue features a 300-foot wraparound stage which allows audience members to feel like they are part of the show. Improved audio and visual effects have also been implemented. The elaborate sets include mechanical animals in many cases, live animals. These animals sometimes walk down the aisles of the theatre, so audience members are up close and personal with camels, horses, donkeys and more. In 2008 the owners opened a similar theatre in Branson, Missouri. The company presents large-scale productions of such tales as The Miracle of Christmas, Daniel and the Lions' Den, The Eternal Flame, and Abraham and Sarah: A Journey of Love. It is located about five miles east of downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania near the Lancaster Host Golf Resort.
There is also a retail location in Rockvale Square, which is a nearby outlet shopping center. It’s called Noah's Landing, and it’s crafted to look like the interior of Noah's Ark. The shop sells stuffed animals, t-shirts and other apparel, gifts, collectibles and memorabilia.
