LEXINGTON: SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO
Lexington is full of historic attractions with many homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, such as the Lexington County Courthouse, Home National Bank, and the Bank of Western Carolina. Visitors can find 30 historic structures at the 7-acre Lexington County Museum complex, which was founded in 1970. The main museum displays a large collection of locally-made artifacts, and costumed guides provide one-hour tours of the buildings.
Lexington hotels help visitors to be near the natural beauty of the region, which offers plenty of activities in the great outdoors. There’s the unique corn maze at the Clinton Sease Farm, which features a pumpkin patch, campfires and school tours. The Town of Lexington Farmers Market—a farmer/grower market supporting local food production—is a great place to purchase fresh, locally grown produce. The Mercer House Estate Winery offers vine and wine tours, as well as regular tastings.
For more outdoor activities you can head slightly north to Lake Murray, held by the 1.7-mile-long Saluda Dam—which many enjoy driving, biking, running or simply walking across. In the summers, the Lexington side of the dam has a public swimming area.
Over the past several years, the city has added new parks and trails. Lexington
Square Park is in the heart of downtown, and includes a 3-acre Lexington Paw Park for dogs. The Fourteen Mile Creek Trail features bridges, an outdoor learning center, and educational kiosks, making for a beautiful—and informational—place to explore.
