Take in the views at Hillarys Boat Harbour, just 25 mins out from Perth

 

Patrolled by lifeguards in the warmer months, with a netted swimming enclosure, Sorrento Beach has long been a summer favourite with beachgoers, with tranquil conditions making it ideal for kids and an easy day out for families. Ample parking, BBQs and expansive grassy lawns a perfect spot for picnics and watching magical sunsets over the Indian Ocean.  

For cyclists and walkers, the scenic Ride the Sunset Coast pathway winds its way for 14kms from Marmion Beach just south of Sorrento up to Burns Beach. Explore coastal bushland and enjoy spectacular views. Just north of Sorrento, you’ll find the clear shallow lagoons, reefs and small islands of Marmion Marine Park, a haven for seabirds and marine wildlife, and a diver’s paradise.

A half-hour drive north is the magnificent Yanchep National Park, with coastal banksia woodlands and over 400 underground limestone caves to explore. Learn about local Aboriginal history and culture at the Wangi Mia Meeting Place, and keep a lookout for western grey kangaroos in the early morning and end of the day when they come out to graze.

Nearby Hillarys Boat Harbour contains many dining options, and plenty of shopping as well.

 

A popular spot for coffee, The So Cafe and Bar at the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club, is open for breakfast on the weekends, while a short stroll north is Sorrento Quay at Hillarys Boat Harbour, a bustling dining and entertainment hub with restaurants, cafes and shops. There’s even a world-class aquarium to explore. Grab an icecream for the kids or enjoy a craft beer gazing out across the sparkling marina.

Perth is just 20 minutes away from Sorrento Beach.

 

Only 20 minutes drive from Sorrento Beach, Perth places lively bars, waterside restaurants and dynamic art galleries right on the doorstep. You can also take a boat trip to Rottnest Island, through Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, where you’ll meet playful dolphins, lazing sea lions and cute quokkas.

Stroll through wildflowers in Kings Park and Botanic Garden and enjoy views of Swan River from the walking trails. The adventurous can also enjoy a view of the city on a Matagarup Bridge climb. For acclaimed local and international exhibitions, visit the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Perth’s dining scene also serves up delicious experiences, with a thriving waterside bar and restaurant scene.   

 

How to get to Sorrento

 

Sorrento Beach is easily accesible from Perth, either by car, train or bus.

 

Sorrento Beach is 21kms, a short 20 minute drive, north west of Perth along the Mitchell Freeway. You can also catch a train and a connecting bus, or a bus direct from Perth city, the trip taking between 45 minutes to an hour. A local bus service also runs frequently past the beach.
