Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail

 

Time to bike on the Murray to Mountain Rail Trail.

Following the old route of the original 1880 Bright Railway Line, the spectacular Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is a scenic 95 km cycling and walking trail that winds from Wangaratta to the alpine town of Bright. Immerse yourself in the colours of the wildflowers as you roll past rivers, vineyards, cafes and the occasional craft brewery. 

The even terrain of the trail makes it an enjoyable ride for any level, and you can cover as much or as little as you choose. For those that want to explore the region further, you’ll uncover a gorgeous landscape of valleys with plenty of trail options to suit. There are also a number of services offering bike carrying shuttle services, as well as gourmet cycle tours.

 
 

Wangaratta Art Gallery

Housed in an historic building across three exhibition spaces, the Wangaratta Art Gallery has built an incredible collection of works from regional artists - as well as national and internationally renowned artists - since it opened in 1987. Today the gallery is particularly well known for its contemporary and textile-based artworks, as well as its exhibits of sculptures from the north-east Victoria region and around the country.

Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival

Known as one of Australia's best regional music festivals, the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues lights up the region across town and in surrounding wineries from October 31 to November 3. Now in its 35th year, this celebrated event presents a diverse program of international and local performers, from music to comedy, theatre and even opera. Warby Falls Heritage Trail

Situated between the Victorian Alps and the Murray Valley, Warby Ovens National Park is a superb slice of nature that offers kayaking opportunities as well as walking and cycling trails. The Warby Falls Heritage Trail offers two hiking options, including a 3 km one-way walk or a 7.5 km loop that takes around five hours, winding through a gully that is home to an historic sawmill and waterfalls. The trail presents a gentle gradient at the beginning, but there are some steep inclines in the middle and end of the track which may better suit experienced hikers.
