A kaleidoscope of contrasts, Perth magically combines the excitement of Australia's natural wonders with the buzz of a thriving city.

Perth, Western Australia

Home to gorgeous beaches, a thriving arts and culture scene and incredible wildlife, Perth is a dynamic meeting of worlds. From immersive museums that step you through the past to an adventure bridge climb over the Swan River, there are plenty of ways to experience the rich wonder of this dynamic city. You’ll also find a city full of lively bars, restaurants and seasonal flavours.

Nature and Wildlife

Spend some time exploring the local region and you’ll also meet dolphins, kangaroos, seals and penguins. Start by taking a boat trip to Rottnest Island, through Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, where dolphins frolic, sea lions laze and whales swim with their calves between September and December. Along with the furry quokka community, Rottnest Island is also a diver’s delight. Jump in and follow tropical fish along snorkel trails.

Did you know Perth weather delivers more sun than any other Australian city? Surrounded by 19 beaches, there are plenty of opportunities to roll out a towel and catch some. Only 15 minutes from the centre of town, Cottesloe Beach has been a local favourite for more than a century.

In spring you’ll also be treated to a glorious show of wildflowers across Kings Park and Botanic Garden - one of the world’s largest inner-city parks. Enjoy a glorious view of the Swan River from this spectacular haven of grassy lawns, native flora and bike and walking trails. Visit Swan Valley and Perth Hills for more walking and cycling trails.

Lively attractions and vivid history

From high-flying to heritage, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Perth. For a great view of the city, buckle up for an adventurous climb up Matagarup Bridge. You’ll scale your way up this striking construction to a viewing platform that is 72 metres above the Swan River.

Get back to earth with some fascinating gold-rush heritage at the Perth Mint, home to exhibits and activities - including watching a gold pouring - that take you through the history of Western Australian gold. You can even download an augmented reality Perth Mint app that you can follow through the city to Elizabeth Quay, passing by 12 significant historic gold sites.

For another insight into Perth’s dramatic past, take a tour through Fremantle Prison. Built as convict barracks in the 1850s, this site has since played a significant role in Perth’s history, from housing an increase of criminals in the gold rush to a POW internment site during both world wars. The State War Memorial, at the top of the Kings Park and Botanic Garden escarpment, is another poignant commemorative site. The Art Gallery of Western Australia, home to local and international exhibits and galleries, is also a must-see.

Perth’s dining scene serves up all kinds of delicious experiences, from a thriving bar scene to dining by the river. Take a tour of some of the acclaimed restaurants, bustling cafes and nearby wineries.
