Hotels in Richmond, KY
Richmond's rich history stretches back over 200 years ago, and even though you will find plenty of things to do and see celebrating the past, you also can enjoy current sites and activities in this flourishing Kentucky town. Stroll through art galleries, antique shops or one of multiple parks as you take in the town sights. Home to Eastern Kentucky University, the town has several of the cultural attractions you would come to expect in a college city, both off and on the campus. Additional attractions include: White Hall State Historic Site, Battle of Richmond Visitors Center, Fort Boonsborough State Park, Paradise Cove Aquatic Center, Richmond Area Arts Center, Adventure Falls Miniature Golf and Batting Cage Facility.
Tour the White Hall State Historic Site, a mansion built by a veteran general of the Revolutionary War. It is open daily for tours, which are given by knowledgeable staff members dressed in period-themed clothing. Explore the Kentucky River Museum in Fort Boonesborough State Park, which displays the history of dams and locks on the Kentucky River. The old house of the family who worked the locks houses the museum and features family memorabilia. The park also includes a reconstruction of the old fort that’s staffed with participants who offer tours and demonstrations of old crafts.
Cool off at the popular Paradise Cove Aquatic Center, where there are several different pools along with slides, tunnels, structures on which to climb, diving boards and more. Check out the unique centrifugal/whirlpool area, and notice the welcome attentiveness of the lifeguards. By now it’s time for a little culture, and you will be delighted with the Richmond Area Arts Center. Originally an American Gothic Episcopal church, you can still see the four stained-glass windows imported from Europe that grace the altar area. The Arts Center is now used for art education for children and adults, various singing groups, garden tours and art exhibits featuring local artists. Family fun awaits you at the Adventure Falls Miniature Golf and Batting Cage Facility—there is truly something for everyone here. The batting cages are great for all ages and allow you to control the speed of the pitch and to select between hardball and softball. Go fishing at the lake, try your hand at the miniature golf course and be sure to take lots of pictures—days like these are the ones you will want to remember.
The country’s culture and values were forged in places like this, where major battles took place in people’s backyards and the frontier was very much a dangerous and challenging place to live. Stay at one of the hotels in Richmond listed above and take time to understand how the Revolutionary War and Civil War changed the landscape forever.
