The considerable elevation gain of the mountain allows it to boast of 16 distinct ecological communities, and it has seven environmental habitats for black bear, river otters, cougars, Bald Eagles, and white-tailed deer. The mountain is famous for its rugged character, and is home to many hidden caves and significant cliffs. Each year, people come here from all over the world to attend one of North America's largest Highland Games. These games celebrate the Scottish ancestry of many of the pioneers who settled around the mountain and feature traditional Scottish games and music.
