Perfect Summer Nights
You can count on the Findlay climate to be seasonal without being too extreme. Summertime highs usually hang around the low 80s, with comfy evening temperatures in the 60s—perfect for a blanket and the stars. Highs often don’t get past the 30s in the depth of winter, though, but nights can fall into the teens. Be prepared for possible snow from fall through spring, and pack rain gear year-round.
Art and History
What would children's books be without the illustrator who brought the author's vision alive for young minds? The Mazza Museum prides itself on the world's most diverse collection of artwork from children's books, with thematic exhibits in multiple galleries and educational programs for kids and adults alike. Combine a kids' tour with a hands-on art class. The Hancock Historical Museum houses exhibits that tell the story of the country in the Civil War and World War II, along with the Findlay Glass produced at the turn of the century that still bedevils antique collectors today. Your trip to Findlay isn’t complete without boarding a train. Jump on a quarter-scale steam or diesel locomotive for weekend events at Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation Inc.
Distribution Hub
When the rubber hits the road, there's a good chance it originated in Findlay. The Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is headquartered here, as is Marathon Petroleum Co. With its hub location between Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Columbus, Findlay has drawn domestic and international manufacturers and retailers, including Whirlpool, to set up production and distribution operations in this Ohio city. Many people commute into the city from surrounding rural areas.
Getting Around
Whether traveling west from Cleveland or east from Indianapolis, Interstate 75 connects a network of highways and neighboring cities to Findlay. The local airport doesn't accommodate commercial carriers, so your best bet is to fly a connector into Toledo Express Airport or arrive from the south at the larger Port Columbus International Airport, which connects directly with major cities coast to coast. Greyhound buses will bring you to the city, but Findlay lacks public mass transit so you'll want to rent a car.
